In the midst of movement, Ellipt #009 creates a moment of calm. The organic rhythm of light and form provides a breathing space, a pause in the fast-paced dynamics of daily life. The light never fully disappears —symbolizing the continuity of human connection, always present, always evolving.
Much like a family tree, this installation visualizes human connection across different layers of life-family, friendships, and professional networks. To create designs that seamlessly integrate with their surroundings, Grietje Schepers visits each space beforehand, studying its architecture, atmosphere, and function. Positioned at RaboCafé in Rabobank’s Utrecht headquarters, Ellipt #009 becomes part of a space designed for encounters, exchange, and shared experiences. The interior design of RaboCafé was carefully crafted by the architectural firm OIII.
With its carefully constructed geometric structure, Ellipt #009 embodies movement and interaction. The form evolves depending on the angle from which it is viewed, creating an ever-changing experience. The installation also enhances acoustic comfort, softening ambient noise while adding warmth and depth to the environment.

The design process behind Ellipt #009 is rooted in precision and sustainability. Developed from flat surfaces into three-dimensional shapes, the installation is created with minimal material waste—combining artistry with responsible design practices. The custom-designed LED lighting changes throughout the day, echoing the rhythm of sunrise and sunset. This gradual transition creates a welcoming and warm atmosphere, making visitors and employees feel at ease as they move through the space.
The installation does not merely illuminate; it interacts with its surroundings. Light flows organically through the form, much like the movement of people who gather in this place. Ellipt #009 symbolizes the coming together of different layers, backgrounds, and experiences—just as its branching structures merge and connect, so do the people who meet at RaboCafé. The light and form continuously evolve, reflecting the fluidity of human connection and shared journeys.
